Shaker Instruments*

[I did some prep work while Bug slept so she didn't have as much sitting around and waiting to do]

What you need: Empty toilet paper rolls [or paper towel rolls], scissors, construction paper, glue, scotch tape, rice, pen/pencil, and your stencils
[To get the stencils I did a google search for the pictures we wanted to use and traced them off the screen on white computer paper]

Trace around the outside of the tubes (about 1/4 inch - 1/2 inch wider then the tube)

Line the edge of your tube up with the edge of the paper and measure it....Once you get this part measured you need to roll the tube until it is completely covered and over laps about 1/2 inch. Then cut out each square...

Cut out your circle template and trace 2 per tube...

Place the end of the tube in the circle and tape it all the way around so it is totally sealed....

I sealed one end of each tube and cut the squares of paper that will be used later...

I also cut out the stencils

After Bug woke up....

Bug picked out the tube she wanted to wear and put rice in the tube...

[Be sure each tube has at least 1 teaspoon of rice in it]

{Unless you have an older child an adult needs to do the next step}
Seal the top of the tube using another circle and tape....

Have your child pick a color to wrap around the outside of the tube...

Have your little one pick out the colors and pictures they want to use on their shaker

Since it was close to bed time I chose to put the glue spots on the pieces for Bug...

Have your child flip the pieces over on to the square...

Tape one side of the square on to the tube and roll it around and glue and or tape the other end down...

If you get brave let your child design with glitter pens :)

Here are our final projects!!!

Throw all your scraps away, put the tape/scissors and glue away. Then sweep up the spilled rice and put your finished shakers up to dry :)
